Achuthanandan named Chairman of Reforms Commission

V. S. Achuthanandan (file photo)Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet decided to set up the proposed Administrative Reforms Commission with veteran CPI (M) leader V. S. Achuthanandan as Chairman on Wednesday.

He will have Cabinet rank with facilities including personal staff. Former chief secretaries C. P. Nair and Neela Gangadharan will be members with the rank of Chief Secretary.

The Commission is aimed at improving the efficiency of administration, an official release said.

Moratorium on loans
The Cabinet also decided to grant a moratorium on farm loans taken by farmers of Wayanad for three more months on Wednesday. Directions will be issued to stop all revenue recoveries. Similar moratorium has been granted for all loans taken by endosulfan victims also.

Director Board reconstituted
The Director Board of Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited will be reconstituted with Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan as chairman and Ports Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally as Vice Chairman.  Four Ministers and officials will be directors as per decision taken by the Cabinet.

National University for Police Sciences
Dr. Alexander Jacob will be appointed as nodal officer for National University for Police Sciences and Security Studies.

Minister for Local Self Government K. T. Jaleel and Special Secretary of his Department V. K. Baby would be deputed to Saudi Arabia in view of the situation there.
