BJP core committee discusses election strategy

BJP president Amit ShahThiruvananthapuram: The Core Committee of BJP Kerala Unit, which met in Kochi in the presence of party president Amit Shah, deliberated on its election strategy for Kerala.

The meeting decided that all senior leaders of the party should contest the elections. As there were shortages of good candidates, fielding of film stars and cultural leaders as candidates should be considered.

It was tentatively discussed that party president Kummanam Rajesekharan should contest from Nemom in Thiruvananthapuram and former State president V. Muraleedharan from Kazhakoottam.  Former State president P. K. Krishnadas may be fielded from Kattakkada.  There was no decision, however, on O. Rajagopal joining the contest. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai may also keep away.

A 15-member committee will be constituted to spearhead the election campaign. The party thinks that it has winning chances in nearly 10 constituencies and fighting chance in nearly 30 constituencies.  The party will set apart a sizable number of seats for parties such as the BDJS with whom it is proposing to form electoral alliance. Efforts are also on to rope in sections of Nairs and Christians.
