Bar-bribery: Opposition disrupts proceedings in the Assembly

Rukus in AssemblyKerala Assembly adjourned for the day following Opposition protests over alleged bribe-taking by Excise Minster K. Babu.

The Opposition members moved into the well of the House and obstructed proceedings after the Speaker N. Sakthan refused permission to move an adjournment motion given notice of by Deputy Leader of CPI (M) Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to discuss alleged bribe-taking by Mr. Babu.

Bill to promote growth of Malayalam

Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft Bill for development of Malayalam Language.

MalayalamThe draft has provisions to make Malayalam the official language of the State and propagation of the language. It will replace the Official Language Act of 1969 which specifies English and Malayalam as the official languages of the State.

Move to amend RTI Act raises concerns

RTIThe General Administration (Coordination) Department, Kerala, has sent a circular to all heads of departments and offices and collectors seeking information on problems in the implementation of Right to Information Act (RTI) towards amending the Act. This has raised some concerns among RTI activists in the State.
