Assembly passes Amendment to re-apportion Kerala Legal Benefit Fund

Thiruvananthapuram: The Assembly passed the Kerala Court Fees and Suits Valuation (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday.

The Bill provides for apportioning of Kerala Legal Benefit Fund, collected from litigants, to the Kerala Advocates’ Welfare Fund and Advocates’ Clerks Welfare Fund after leaving ten per cent for providing infrastructure to litigants.

Demonetisation will hit economy: Thomas Isaac

Thomas Isaacerala Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac said in the Assembly on Wednesday that demonetisation of currency would lead to accentuation of economic recession.

The drop in availability of money up to December 30 would lead to reduction in trade, the Finance Minister said in a statement in the Assembly. 

The House protested against remark of BJP general secretary that Kerala was a centre of hawala transactions and that was why the Kerala Finance Minister was opposing action taken by the Centre.

Assembly passes Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land Bill

Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan replying to debate on Paddy Bill on Nov. 8The Assembly passed the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland (Amendment) Bill on Tuesday.

The Bill seeks to omit amendment brought to the 2008 legislation by UDF government in 2015 for regularisation of conversion or reclamation of paddy land before 2008 on payment of 25 per cent of the fair value of the land.

Walkouts over opposing demands in Kerala Assembly

Kerala State Cooperative Bank, TrivandrumKerala Assembly saw two walkouts to press for opposing demands on Tuesday.

Opposition United Democratic Front and Kerala Congress (M) walked out demanding that government should withdraw from move to dissolve district cooperative banks.

Independent member P. C. George staged a walkout demanding the district cooperative banks should be disbanded.
