Government loses Rs. 4500 cr by non-levy or short levy of tax

Audit reportThe Comptroller and Auditor General of India has reported non-levy or short levy of tax and interest amounting to Rs. 4500 crore during year ended March 2015.

In his report on the Revenue Sector submitted to the Assembly, the Comptroller and Auditor General noted that the Commercial Taxes Department had failed to bring majority of dealers under tax net by registering them under the value added tax system.

Honararium of anganwadi workers and helpers hiked

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy winding up debate on the Budget as Opposition protests on Feb. 18Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Wednesday that the monthly honorarium of anganwadi workers and helpers would be increased to Rs. 10000 and Rs. 7000 respectively.

Poultry farming and cattle rearing would be recognised as part of agriculture, eligible for loans, power subsidy and tax concessions.

Plantation tax slashed from Rs. 700 to Rs. 500 a hectare

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that the plantation tax would be reduced from Rs. 700 to Rs. 500 a hectare.

CPlantationsontract and daily wage workers in government service would be given the minimum scale applicable to permanent employees in equivalent posts so as to ensure a decent living standard to them. They would also get an annual increase based on consumer price index.

Kerala fails to keep revenue and fiscal defict under check: audit report

CAG reportKerala government has failed to achieve revenue and fiscal deficit targets envisaged under the Kerala Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Act, 2011 during the last four years, says the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on State finances for the year ended March 31, 2015.

Total expenditure of the State almost doubled during the last five years and share of revenue expenditure in total expenditure was above 90 per cent during the last four years. Liability on interest payments showed a higher growth due to mounting of liability in open market borrowings.

Next government has to find additional resources: Chandy

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy replying to debate on supplementary demands for grants on TuesdayChief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Tuesday that additional resources for implementation of his Budget for next year would have to be found by the new government.

Replying to the debate on the final supplementary demands for grants for the current year, the Chief Minister said that Budget did not speak of new sources of revenue as the State was going to polls shortly. It was for the new government to decide on resource mobilisation.
