44 aided schools seek closure

schoolThiruvananthapuram: As many as 44 aided schools have sought closure in the State. 

Of them, five have already been closed down on government orders and four on orders from the High Court. One is pending before the Court.

As per data obtained by RTI Kerala Federation, 19 of the schools, which have not been formally closed down, have no students. However, there are 12 teachers and a headmaster in four of the schools.

On the other hand, 15 schools which have applied for closure have a total of 483 students.  There are 69 teachers in 12 of these schools while three have no teachers.

Meanwhile, government decision to take over the Malapparambu AUP School, which had been closed down on orders of the Court, is stalled as a case is pending.  Education Minister C. Raveendranath said that the government had completed steps for taking over the school, but immediate takeover would not be possible because of legal issues.
