Anganwadi Welfare Fund Bill referred to Subject Commite

Minister M. K. Munner piloting the BillThiruvananthapuram: The Assembly on Tuesday referred the Kerala Anganwadi Workers’ and Anganwadi Helpers’ Welfare Fund and the Kerala Land Tax (Amendment) Bill to the subject committees concerned.

Minister for Social Welfare M. K. Muneer, who piloted the Welfare Fund Bill, said that it was a revolutionary legislation. Till recently, the welfare fund for anganwadi workers and helpers used to be handled by an official. A welfare fund was set up for them subsequently with their representatives in the governing body. The Bill sought to replace the Ordinance issued to accord statutory status to the Fund and its Board.

The Minister said that about 66000 workers and helpers would benefit from the measure.

Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash, who piloted the Land Tax Bill said that the Bill sought replace an Ordinance issued to cut increased basic tax rates which was found to be a heavy burden on farmers.
