BJP not to take initiative for alliance with KC (M)

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP will hold discussions for alliance with Kerala Congress (Mani) only if Kerala Congress (M) takes the initiative.

The BJP will not be diluting the party’s stand towards allegations against Kerala Congress (M) leader K. M. Mani for the time being in tune with the decision of its State Committee. This makes talks with Kerala Congress (M) difficult though the BJP is keen to have alliances in Kerala.

Mr. Mani appears to be in no hurry to form alliances. He is planning to strengthen the party through a series of agitations against the Centre and the State governments for farmers. The State Committee of Kerala Congress is meeting again on August 14. Plans for agitations would be finalised at this meeting.

An understanding with either LDF or BJP may emerge only after that. Mr. Mani will need time if he is to drive the Kerala Congress (M) into BJP camp. A consensus on this count in the party is difficult.

The BJP will soon be holding a meeting of the NDA to discuss the present political situation in the State. Informal discussions have already taken place between NDA and Kerala Congress (M).
