Congress announces list of candidates: tainted ministers get tickets

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress announced its list for candidates for Kerala Assembly elections for 83 seats on Monday.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s right hand man Benny Behanan did not get ticket. P. T. Thomas gets takes his place in Thrikkakkara constituency.  All allegedly tainted ministers have been accommodated except C. N. Balakrishnan and Aryadan Mohammed who had opted out of the contest earlier. Thirty three of the 39 sitting members of the Assembly from the party got tickets.

The list focuses on winnability, and KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran said that the party could announce a good list. It would serve to realise the objective of retaining power.

There is fairly good representation for youth in the list, but only seven women has made it to the list. No candidate has been declared for Payyannur, Kanhangad and Kalyasseri constituencies.

Talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that it was regrettable that Mr. Behnan did not find a place in the list as expected. But, P. T. Thomas was eligible. He welcomed the list.

The following is the full list of candidates.
