Crisis in cooperatives: all-party delegation to meet Prime Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: An all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan on Monday decided that an all-party delegation should meet the Prime Minister Nareandra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to demand resolution of crisis in the cooperative sector.

The names of the members would be announced at the Assembly meeting on Tuesday.  The House will pass a resolution after discussion of the crisis. All parties, except BJP, will act jointly in the matter.

The State unit of the BJP, which walked out from the meeting, announced that it would lead a delegation against the demand that the cooperatives should be allowed to exchange demonetised currency notes. Both the LDF and UDF harboured black money, BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan said.

Chief Minister said that the cooperative sector was willing to give any details of deposits demanded by the Income Tax Department. The cooperatives should be allowed to exchange demonetised notes and carry on with its routine business.
