Delhi Conclave: Sudheeran carries the day

Thiruvananthapuram: The planned gang up against KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran at the Delhi conclave did not materialise with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi putting his weight behind Mr. Sudheeran on Thursday.

The conclave was a tame affair after Mr. Gandhi said that groupism would not be tolerated. There cannot be an organisational election in Kerala alone. This would deprive the detractors of Mr. Sudheeran of any chance to remove him from the post of KPCC president.

Moreover, it has been clarified that part positions would not be divided on group basis when restricting of the party units are undertaken. This would mean that the group leaders in the party would have lesser say in the nominations. On the other hand, the restructuring may provide increased clout for Mr. Sudheeran.

Mr. Gandhi’s interactions with party leaders from the State will continue on Friday. The interactions being held against the background defeat suffered by the party in the Assembly elections.
