Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 1, 2015: The Kerala Technological University Bill, passed by the Assembly in July, has become law with the Governor granting his assent to the legislation on August 31.
The University, which has State wide jurisdiction, will promote teaching and research in engineering and management. It is an affiliating university which will strive to improve standards in teaching of engineering subjects and focus on development of indigenous technology in various fields. The University will also encourage applied research in multi-disciplinary areas and set up centres of excellence for the purpose.
The University is named after former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. The main authorities of the University are Board of Governors, Executive Committee, Academic Council and Research Council. Chancellor of the University (Governor), Pro-Chancellor (Minister of Education), Secretaries to the Government (Higher Education and Finance), Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor will be among members of the governing board. It will also have representatives of teachers, students and managements of engineering colleges.
