New Delhi: Congress candidates list for the Kerala Assembly elections is likely to be announced in a day or two.
The announcement is likely only after Congress leader Mukul Vasnik, who is in charge of Kerala affairs of the party, returns from Tamil Nadu. He left for Tamil Nadu today.
Discussions among Kerala leaders and Congress high command including Sonia Gandhi was inconclusive with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy taking the stand that he would not be contesting the elections if any of his ministers was not given ticket. If they were tainted, the same applied to him.
The Chief Minister, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and Home Minister left for Kerala leaving decision on contentious issues to the high command. However, indications are that the Chief Minister’s stand has carried the day.
Mr. Sudheeran told the media that whatever be the decision of the high command, all Congress workers would have to abide by that.
He said that he had put forward several suggestions to increase people’s support for the party and improve its prospects. It was not out of any antagonism towards individuals. His suggestions were to help the party to fight the elections with increased strength. He still held his views.
He said that the attempt was to draw up a list of best candidates including new faces.
Mr. Sudheeran said in Thiruvananthapuram that list has to be released soon. “We don’t wish to create a crisis over that.”
