Joint Director of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, has issued circular restricting Onam celebrations in higher secondary schools.

Programmes should be organised without affecting teaching, examinations or extra-curricular activities. A full day should not be set apart for celebrations and large sums should not be collected for celebrations, it said.

Update: The circular, issued on Thursday, was withdrawn on Friday on a directive from Education Minister C. Ravindranath.

The government has notified an amendment to Kerala Right to Information (Regulation of Fee and Cost) Rules to restrict the free supply of information to those living below the poverty line to 20 pages in A4 size paper.

The notification, issued in January during the administration of Oommen Chandy government, said that the amendment was being made because of misuse of exemption from paying fee by some interested groups.

Kerala government will be seeking additional quota of rice from Centre for public distribution during Onam.

This was decided at a meeting of the consultative committee of FCI that met here on Sunday.

Currently, the State is getting 83477 metric tonnes of rice a month. An additional quantity of 22540 metric tonnes, which it was receiving, was discontinued from April this year.

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has denied that he had expressed views against closure of bars in the State in an interview to Kalakaumudi weekly recently.

Mr. Chennithala said that he had only said that UDF’s liquor policy had not benefitted the Front in the elections. This did not mean that he was opposed to the liquor policy adopted by the UDF after sufficient consultations and discussions.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Government has filed a petition before the High Court challenging the order of the State Information Commission directing it to release details of Cabinet decisions taken by the previous government, before it was voted out, this year.
