UDF calls for hartal in Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday

The hartal, announced by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala after a meeting of the UDF, will be from 6 am to 6 pm.

Slogan-shouting UDF members disrupted the proceedings of the Assembly for the second day today.

The UD members were protesting against the agreement reached between government and self-financing colleges and police action against Youth Congress workers who were agitating against the agreement in different parts of the Sate.

Conflict between media and lawyers: Pinarai to wait for outcome of meeting called by CJ

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan told the Assembly on Monday that if any action from the government is needed to resolve the standoff between journalists and lawyers, that could be done.

However, the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court had called for a meeting of representatives of the bar and the media to resolve the issue on September 29. “Let us wait for the outcome,” he said in response to a submission made by V. D. Satheesan (Congress).

Infrastructure Investment (Amendment) Bill goes to Subject Committee

Finance Minister Thomas Isaac introducing Infrastrucure Board Bill on MondayThe Assembly on Monday referred the Kerala Infrastructure Investment (Amendment) Bill, which is to replace Ordinance issued earlier, to the Subject Committee.

The Bill seeks to alter the structure of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Board to enable it to raise funds from the open market for projects in 23 sectors including agriculture, education and health.

‘Government has not dropped the proposal to leave Devaswom appointments to PSC’

Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for DevaswomsThiruvananthapuram: Minister for Power and Devaswom Kadakampally Surendran indicated in the Assembly on Monday that the government had not dropped the proposal to entrust appointments to the administrative services of devaswoms to the Public Services.

However, appointments to traditional posts such as those connected with worship in the temples will continue to be under Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board.
