Eight medical colleges denied permission

Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare) Faggan Singh Kulaste New Delhi: Union government has denied permission for functioning of eight medical colleges in Kerala for the current academic year, Minister of State (Health and Family Welfare) Faggan Singh Kulaste said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The colleges are DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences, Sree Gokulam Medical College & Research Foundation, Kannur Medical College, Mount Zion Medical College, P.K Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Al-Azhar Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, Malabar Medical College  and Research Centre and Government Medical College, Idukki, Painav.

A few of these colleges had been denied permission in the previous years too.

Permission to medical colleges is granted by Central Government on the basis of recommendation by Medical Council of India (MCI) after assessment as per Minimum Standard Requirements under the MCI Regulations, 1999.

The permission is initially granted for one year and is renewed on yearly basis subject to verification of achievements of annual targets. Medical Colleges which fail to meet the minimum standards are not given permission/renewal permission.
