Free Insulin Pumps to Diabetic Children

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide insulin pumps free of cost to diabetic children.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media that it was the most reliable way to combat diabetes among children. Most of the families found it difficult to afford the huge cost of insulin pump. Minister M. K. Muneer had been entrusted to carry out discussions with persons who can supply the pumps at a reduced rate. The scheme would be implemented through the department of Social Justice.

The Chief Minister said that the World Bank had given extension to complete the Kerala Local Government Service Delivery Project.  Rs 1039 crore had been spent so far out of the total Rs. 1195.8 crore sanctioned for the project.

World Bank Project
The original deadline of the project was March 31, 2016. Following a request to the World Bank by him, the project deadline had been extended to June 30, 2017. The State would also get Rs. 400 crore, on account of variations in the exchange rate of US Dollar. This additional amount will be used for improving the condition of backward panchayats and to implement programmes in tribal clusters.

Land for KSEB
About 150 acres of land with FACT would be given to the Kerala State Electricity Board for generating electricity from petcoke. The price of the land would be decided by the district collector of Ernakulam and KSIDC entrusted with its purchase. The decision to do so would be intimated to the Central government.

Other Decisions

A new sub-registrar office will be started at Edavanna.

From the land given on lease to Energy Management Centre at Cheruvakkal in Thiruvananthapuram district, 75 cents of land will be given to Electricity Regulatory Commission and 25 cents to Pollution Control Board.

4.05 ares land will be given to Karthikeyan Foundation at Varkala.

14.4 ares land will be given free of cost to Sree Narayana Dharma Sangam Trust at Sivagiri.

15 cents of land will be given to C-DIT and 45 cents to IT Mission at Pattom village in Thir
