Thiruvananthapuram: The water level in the Mullaperiyar reservoir has crossed 136 feet following heavy rains in the catchment areas and reduction of intake by Tamil Nadu.
There is fear that the water level will be climbing further as it continues to rain in the catchments. The weather bureau has forecast isolated heavy rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep today.
Officials of the State Water Resources Department are visiting the dam to assess the situation. The supervising committee, appointed by the Supreme Court to oversee raising of the reservoir level, is expected to visit the dam this month-end. The committee had visited the dam in June this year.
