Technical University should use free software: Achuthanandan

Opposition Leader V. S. AchuthanandanThiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan demanded here on Wednesday that Kerala Technological University should withdraw its decision to entrust conduct of examinations to a private agency.

Addressing a media conference, the Opposition Leader said that the University had even decided to allocate space for the agency in every college and pay a large sum for its services which would largely be managed by temporary hands posted at the colleges.

He also objected to plan to use Microsoft Silverlight by the University and demanded that it should be going in for free and open source software. Silverlight was outdated software.

Mr. Achuthanandan said that he would be approaching the court against SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Nateswan for alleged corruption in microfinance and misappropriation of funds of SN Trust. Proper investigation should take place into the death of Swami Swaswathikananda without outside interference, he said welcoming the observations of the High Court in this regard.
