KSRTC ordinary bus fares reduced by Re. 1

KSRTC busThiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to reduce fares of KSRTC ordinary bus services by Rs. 1 per trip in view of fall in diesel prices.

Accordingly, the minimum fare will come down from Rs. 7 to Rs. 6. Rates for other fare stages will also drop by Rs. 1. The lowering of fares will not apply to fast passenger and other premium services.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media that private buses would also be asked to follow suit. The Transport Minister will hold discussions with the bus owners in this regard shortly.

The Cabinet approved 2653 posts of teachers and laboratory assistants for the newly sanctioned higher secondary schools.  A Commission headed by former IAS officer P. P. Gopi will be appointed to study the status of Christian converts.

The next of kin of Lance Naik B. Sudheesh, who died in avalanche at Siachen recently, will be granted Rs. 25 lakhs as solatium. A government job would be provided to his wife.

The Cabinet decided to set up a river management and research institute at Thrikkakkara in Ernakulam district for water resources management of Kerala’s rivers in a comprehensive and unified manner.
