Appointment of Economic Advisor: CPI (M) polit bureau not to intervene

New Delhi: The CPI (M) polit bureau will not intervene in the controversy over appointment of Harvard professor Gita Gopinath as economic advisor to Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan, Asianet television reported on Sunday.

Veteran CPI (M) leader V. S. Achuthanandan had written to the polit bureau noting that Ms. Gopinath was proponent of views opposed to that of the CPI (M).

However, the polit bureau felt that it was a matter to the decided by the State unit of the party though some members were critical of the appointment. The State leadership could take appropriate decisions in the matter.
